چکیده
The time domain reflectometry (TDR) technique is a geophysical method that allows, in time-varying electric field, the determination of dielectric permittivity and electrical conductivity wide class porous materials. Measurements volumetric water content (θw) soils most frequent application TDR Soil Science Hydrology. In last four decades several studies have sought to explore potential applications TDR. Such (except those conducted on θw estimation) mainly focused monitoring soil solute transport. more recent times, innovative approaches also been implemented extend current fields problem non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) variable saturated soils. NAPLs are organic compounds with low solubility characterised by high mobility vadose zone. Due their toxicity, constitute severe geo-environmental problem, thus making detection observation such substances an increasingly important issue. present paper deals these aims provide up-to-date review main NAPL-TDR studies. To date, literature has three fields: (i) NAPL homogeneous, soils, (ii) layered (iii) during decontamination processes. For exhaustive complete overview research this we recall basic principles signal propagation, functioning typical device, mixing models widely used interpret response NAPL-contaminated

A New Non-Destructive TDR System Combined with a Piezoelectric Stack for Measuring Properties of Geomaterials
Dry density and water content are two important factors affecting the degree of soil compaction. Conventional methods such as the sand cone test and the plate load test are used to measure such properties for evaluating the degree of compaction and the stiffness of soil in the field. However, these tests are generally very time-consuming and are inherent with some errors depending on the operat...
متن کاملSelf-sustaining smoldering combustion: a novel remediation process for non-aqueous-phase liquids in porous media.
Smoldering combustion, the slow burning process associated typically with porous solids (e.g., charcoal), is here proposed as a novel remediation approach for nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) embedded in porous media. Several one-dimensional vertical smoldering experiments are conducted on quartz sand containing fresh coal tar at an initial concentration of 71 000 mg/kg (approximately 25% satur...
متن کاملA fiber optic sensor for measuring glucose in aqueous solutions
In this paper, the set-up of a multi-mode fiber optic sensor for measuring glucose in aqueous solutions is investigated and evaluated. The basis of this sensor is based on the Fresnel Reflection. In this setup, a helium-neon laser is used as a light source, a fiber optic probe, photocell as detector and a digital multimeter. The statistical analysis of the recorded data shows a highly linear be...
متن کاملIonic liquids for synthesis of nanoparticles (A review)
An ionic liquid (IL) is a salt in the liquid state. In some contexts, the term has been restricted to salts whose melting point is below some arbitrary temperature, such as 100 °C. While ordinary liquids such as water and gasoline are predominantly made of electrically neutral molecules, ionic liquids are largely made of ions and short-lived ion pairs. These substances are variously called liqu...
